Rangers ‘to submit multi-million pound Tasos Douvikas offer’ – but face competition from Germany and Turkey

The 23-year-old Utrecht star has been linked with Gers for a number of weeks and before that there was talk of interest from Celtic.

Douvikas is a Greek international with 15 caps and one goal to his name for his country.

He had a superb year for Utrecht in the Eredivisie last season, scoring 20 goals in 33 league appearances.

Those stats have enticed Rangers enough to consider a bid, according to Nova Sports in the Netherlands.

They say the Ibrox club are determined to firm up their interest with a formal offer to the Dutch side – but there could be serious competition from elsewhere in Europe.

German outfit Borussia Monchegladbach are said to be in for Douvikas, as are Turkish giants Galatasaray.

While Michael Beale has already secured one new striker this summer in Dutchman Sam Lammers from Atalanta, he’s been on record as saying he wants plenty of new forwards in the door so it’s unlikely he stops at one.

Douvikas started his career at Asteras Tripolis, and in his first season as a pro he won the Greek Breakthrough Player of the Year award.

After three seasons he moved to league rivals Volos on a free transfer and scored 11 times in 30 games for his new club.

That led to Utrecht swooping in for him, paying a transfer fee of around £1m to the Greeks.

His first campaign in the Netherlands was relatively productive with 14 goals in all competitions from 34 outings, before he exploded last season and finished as the league’s top scorer.

Sticking with potential Rangers strikers, Torino could hijack the Light Blues’ move for Nigerian international Cyriel Dessers.

It was reported last week that Cremonese were considering reducing the asking price to £3.5m plus £900,000 in add-ons, as opposed to the £7m they initially wanted.

Antonio Colak was at one point believed to be heading out the exit door but he’s vowed to keep a hold of the number nine jersey and has been spotted doing extra fitness work – whilst on his HONEYMOON.
